In Skopelos Town - FOR 5 PEOPLE maximum This three storey traditional balconied town house, which is owned by an English artist and his wife, is situated in the oldest neighbourhood in Skopelos town. From its location just opposite "Christos", one of the island's main Byzantine churches, the house has spectacular views of the busy little harbour and to the East across the Aegean to the nearby island of Alonnissos.
The small barrel vaulted Byzantine Church of "Panaghia" (Virgin Mary) is right behind the house. Its little yard filled with jasmine, roses and bougainvillea is very pretty during the summer months. Just in front of the house stands the tiny church of Aghia Triada. Altogether, seven churches stand within sight of the house, each tended by local women most of whom were born and raised in this traditional part of town. |
The house is situated below the old Venetian Castro and can be reached from a path and flight of steps leading from the car park there. Here there is also a small supermarket selling fruit and vegetables, and groceries. The house can also be reached from several flights of steps along the "Paralia", the area around the town's harbour where you can find tavernas and excellent restaurants. The cobbled streets and steps in the neighbourhood of Christos are open to pedestrians only, leaving this area peaceful and undisturbed by traffic. |
