The natural beauty of Skopelos has been a constant source of inspiration for
writers and poets, artists and intellectuals. What inspired us at the
Ministry of Culture was not only the natural beauty of the island but also
its people and their initiatives. By placing these cultural events under its
patronage, the Ministry of Culture has in fact decided that Skopelos will be
among the first cities to be included in the National Cultural Cities
Network-a major project which will be instrumental in the realisation of our
dream of creating wide ranging cultural institutions all over our country.
Thanos Mikroutsikos, Minister of Culture 1994
