Volos : The capital and economic centre of the district (Magnesia Prefecture) is located in the Pagasitic gulf. One of the most beautiful cities at the middle eastern part of Greece, a nice sea side town. Its verdant surroundings are alive with ancient memories: Iolkos (the hide-out of Jason and the Argonauts), Dimitrias. To the west are the Neolithic settlements of Seklo and Diminio. Splendid blue waters lap at beautiful beaches and local specialities complete the region portrait. Across the shimmering water from the eastern coast of Pelion, lie the Sporades islands. There are plenty of hydrofoil and ferry services to Skopelos; hydrofoil: 2 hours, ferry: 4 hours. Nea Ancheallos is a small airport close to Volos, that operates charter flights. The Panthessaliko Stadium in Volos hosted the preliminary phase of the Olympic Football Tournament games in 2004. The Panthessaliko Sports Complex entails the reformation of the existing stands and buildings into a new structure of 20,000 seats.
