We would like to recommend an alternative
route; fly to Thessalonica and take a hydrofoil or ferry direct to Skopelos. Even if you have to stay in
Thessalonica for one night
you can have fun visiting the markets and the museums, all within walking
distance of the port. Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, is
one of the oldest cities in Europe, and the city has a lot to
offer. Among the numerous monuments of particular interest in the
city are those from the Roman period, the Triumphal Arch of
Galerius, and the Rotonda. The town today has two quite distinct
sectors: the old town, continuously undergoing reconstruction, and
the modern sector, whose many modern buildings are examples of
advanced architecture. There are also many institutions that
contribute to the cultural and academic life of the city.
Thessaloniki is a thriving city and one of the most important
trade and communications centres in the Mediterranean. There are summer
charter flights to Thessaloniki airport from the UK. Click on the

Volos is the capital of Magnesia Prefecture.
It is situated at the centre of the Greek mainland, and is the only outlet
to the sea from Thessaly, the country’s largest agricultural region. A nice sea side town with plenty of
hydrofoil and ferry services to Skopelos; hydrofoil: 2¼ hours, ferry: 4¼
hours. Founded in the mid 19th century, Volos is a cheerful, lively town,
soundly laid out with pleasant, broad streets. The waterfront is an ideal
spot for a stroll. A modern coastal avenue bustling with life, it is lined
with pastry shops, cafes and restaurants. Volos harbour is particularly
active. There are summer charter flights to Volos airport from the UK.
